Police investigate counterfeit money case

GRANT TOWNSHIP — Two men and one woman, all of whom are wanted on outstanding warrants, are suspects in a counterfeit money case, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

A total of 88 fake $100 bills and 87 fake $20 bills were recovered following an investigation in the 8000 block of South Robinhood Drive Sunday, Sept. 8. “There was some other counterfeit money trying to be developed,” said Sheriff Mast.

This is the same type of movie prop money that was circulating locally in recent years. The bills say, “For Motion Picture Purposes Only,” Mast said. 

Police are not aware of any of this latest counterfeit money being passed locally. 

“We are currently collaborating with the U.S. Secret Service to see if they want to pursue the investigation or if they want it handled locally.”

The movie prop money can be purchased on several websites, including Amazon.
