MSP: No major incidents reported at Electric Forest

ROTHBURY — As tens of thousands of Electric Forest Festival attendees leave the Double JJ Resort venue Monday June 24 after the gigantic four-day event, the Michigan State Police is reporting no major incidents.

“It was fairly uneventful as far as significant activity,” said MSP Sgt. Brad Howard at the Hart post. “There are a lot of police there, and there is good interaction between the Michigan State Police and the concert goers. There was nothing out of the norm.”

Of 73 incidents in Oceana County during the four-day period of June 20-23, about 90 percent were Electric Forest related, said Sgt. Howard.

There were several felony drug arrests, wellbeing checks, non-injury vehicle crashes, stolen and lost cell phones, domestic incidents, and driving on suspended license violations, he said. A man was arrested for a felony of delivery/manufacture of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor of trespassing. “He had no access to the venue and started selling drugs,” said Sgt. Howard. There was also a felony third-offense operating while intoxicated arrest.

MSP is investigating a fraud case reported in Mason County involving the sale of fake EF wristbands for $1,100, said Sgt. Howard. The incident occurred in Grand Rapids, and the case will be turned over to the Grand Rapids post, he said. “That is kind of a common thing — there is a lot of fraudulent merchandise.”

EF attendees are required to vacate the venue Monday by 4 p.m., which is a change from previous years that required a noon departure. Motorists should expect a significant traffic push on southbound US 31 beginning at noon, he said. There are several traffic control points set up. The heavy southbound traffic on US 31 is expected to continue until at least 4 p.m.
