HART — The Hart Economic and Redevelopment Team seeks artists for two unique sculpture projects and a fall art walk.
HEART is looking for “a talented artist or team of artists to design and construct a larger-than-life-sized sculpture of a troll fishing on the bank of Hart Lake,” states a press release. “The sculpture will be a permanent outdoor installation, designed to blend its natural surroundings. It should be whimsical, imaginative, and constructed primarily from natural elements such as wood, stone, and other organic materials. The piece must be durable and weather-resistant, able to withstand the outdoor elements year-round.”
Artists must submit their designs by July 1, and the selection will be announced July 9. The installation must be completed by Nov. 1.
HEART also invites innovative artists “to submit proposals for a unique tree sculpture that incorporates solar panels as leaves, providing a pedestrian-accessible USB charging station. This installation should blend artistic creativity with functional design, harnessing solar energy to offer a sustainable charging solution for downtown visitors. The solar limbs shall be constructed in a way to reduce vandalism and the potential for climbing the sculpture. The base should be prepared to mount to concrete.”
Designs must be submitted by July 16 with the selection announcement slated for Aug. 3. The installation must be completed by May 1.
Send complete proposal packages to nkleiner@cityofhart.org by the submission deadline. The selected artist or artist team will receive a stipend of $750 to cover the creation and installation of the troll sculpture and $2,000 for the tree sculpture.
The H’art Project aims to put the art in “H’art” with a goal of 25 public art installments in the walkable downtown by the end of 2025.
Featured artists are also wanted to participate in a fall art walk.
The third annual Fall Art Walk will feature eight artists whose works will be displayed inside downtown businesses. “This special event includes a meet and greet with the artists, allowing participants to engage with the community and share the stories behind their art. In addition, local businesses will offer refreshments at each stop. The Hart project is seeking artists representing a variety of mediums including but not limited to painting, textiles, photography, sculpture, pottery, printmaking, digital art, and more.”
It is scheduled for Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at various downtown businesses.
