ELBRIDGE TOWNSHIP — Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a pickup truck vs. tractor crash Tuesday afternoon, May 28, in which the pickup truck driver was airlifted to Grand Rapids for serious injuries, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
“On May 28 at 2:55 p.m., the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a pickup truck vs. farm tractor crash on North York Road near 112th Avenue in Elbridge Township in Oceana County,” states a press release from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
“Upon arrival there, deputies found a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck that was being driven by a 44-year-old Holton man who was traveling northwest and had struck a 14-foot farm disk that was being pulled southeast behind a 1972 Oliver farm tractor operated by a 67-year-old Shelby man. The Chevy spun out of control and overturned — causing heavy damage to the truck, and the driver was trapped inside for several minutes.
“Once the Holton man was extricated from the truck cab, he was taken by ambulance to the Oceana County Airport where he was transported by Aeromed to Grand Rapids Spectrum Hospital for serious injuries he had sustained in the crash. The 67-year-old Shelby man was transported to Trinity Health Lakeshore Hospital in Shelby for non-life-threatening injuries.
“Alcohol is suspected as being a factor, and we are continuing to investigate. The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hart Area Fire Department, Life EMS, Walkerville Rescue, Shelby-Benona Fire Department and Aeromed.”
