HART — A 57-year-old Hart man who allegedly set a mattress on fire inside an apartment earlier this month has been arraigned in Oceana County’s 79th District Court on a felony charge of first-degree arson.

Luna Jesus Trigo, of 2320 W. Baseline Rd., is scheduled to appear for a preliminary exam in district court May 7 at 1 p.m. Trigo’s bail was set at $25,000/cash/surety/10 percent.

Trigo, who is a resident in an apartment building on West Baseline Road, allegedly set a mattress on fire using a lighter the afternoon of April 12, according to Michigan State Police Sgt. Dan Thomas. Another apartment resident dragged the mattress outside and extinguished the fire, said Thomas.

No one was injured, and fire department response was not requested.

A conviction of first-degree arson is punishable by up to life in prison.
