Suspect spends night in woods to avoid arrest, emerges scratched up and bloody

CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A 38-year-old Walkerville man who spent the night in the woods hiding from police emerged bloody due to being scratched up by vegetation while running away from deputies, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The man, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, faces additional charges of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and driving while license suspended.

He ran away during a traffic stop Monday, April 15, around 3 p.m. on East Jefferson Road, and was apprehended Tuesday, April 16, around 1 p.m. in the 8800 block of North 120th Avenue. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.

A 30-year-old Walkerville woman faces a charge of allowing a suspended person to operate in connection to the case.

Friday, April 12, 2024:

  • 2:15 p.m., a 2011 Jayco pop-up trailer that was stolen out of Macomb County was recovered at an unoccupied residence, 700 block of West Drive, Golden Township. The trailer was turned over the Macomb County authorities.
  • 11:09 p.m., a 52-year-old Muskegon woman was cited for open intoxicants, South 192nd Avenue, Greenwood Township.

Saturday, April 13, 2024:

  • 1:30 a.m., an 18-year-old Hart man, an 18-year-old Pentwater woman and a 15-year-old Hart boy were cited for minor in possession of alcohol, West Adams Road near 88th Avenue, Weare Township.
  • 2:36 a.m., a 35-year-old Ludington man was arrested for third-offense operating while intoxicated and driving while license revoked, Adams Road near 96th Avenue, Weare Township. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
  • 9:06 a.m., $40 worth of gasoline was apparently siphoned from a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, 5600 block of First Street, Village of Mears. The thief or thieves also attempted to steal the truck battery.
  • 9:44 a.m.., a 46-year-old Montague man was arrested on a warrant and a charge of second-offense driving while license suspended, South Oceana Drive near Skeels Road, Grant Township. A charge of methamphetamine possession is pending lab analysis of the substance. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
  • 4:25 p.m., a methamphetamine possession charge against a 32-year-old Fremont woman is pending lab analysis of the substance, 192nd Avenue, Greenwood Township.

Tuesday, April 16, 2024:

  • 5 p.m., domestic violence, no arrest, 200 block of Sessions Road, Village of Shelby.

Wednesday, April 17, 2024:

  • 3:35 a.m., a methamphetamine possession charge against a 38-year-old Fremont woman is pending lab analysis of the substance, Division Street, Village of Hesperia.
