VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College is offering several learning and career exploration opportunities for kids this summer through its College for Kids programs.

“We are thrilled to expand our College for Kids program across the summer with College for Kids Unlimited,” said co-organizer and Talent Pipeline Coordinator Wendy Wells.

We’ve created a fun, exploratory opportunity to gain hands-on experience in several areas like social work, agriculture, performing and visual arts, health science, welding, and more during CFK Unlimited. And then the traditional College for Kids allows students to pick two areas and dive deeper into those worlds,”

Both CFK Unlimited and CFK are geared toward kids ages 9-15 and run from 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30-3:30 p.m. CFK Unlimited will be offered Monday to Thursday, June 10 through July 25, and August 5-15 for $140 for full day tuition per four-day week.
Traditional College for Kids will be held July 29-August 2 and is $175 for full day tuition for the week. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Free transportation to Lake, Manistee, Mason and Oceana counties is available during different weeks of the summer and to all counties during the one-week CFK camp. Transportation is funded under a grant awarded by the Michigan Department of Education in collaboration with Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential.

Several community organizations are assisting with tuition.  Scholarships are available and funded under grants awarded by the Lake County Community Foundation, Mason County Promise, and Michigan Department of Education in collaboration with Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential. Both transportation and scholarships can be requested during online registration.

Discovery Quest brings the CFK excitement to students ages 4-9. Classes include similar topics as CFK Unlimited at a more age-appropriate level.

“We are looking forward to ignite curiosity while taking young learners on a journey into what they could be when they grow up!,” said co-organizer Cara Mitchell of WSCC.

“From making a music video and American sign language, to robotics and the science of weather, students will spend the summer on a discovery quest engrossed in different career pathways.”

Discovery Quest Camp runs weekly, June 10-August 15, Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon or 12:30 to 3:330 p.m. for $140 per week. Breakfast for the morning sessions and lunch for the afternoon sessions will be provided. The program is not funded under any grants and therefore transportation and scholarships are not available.
Registration is open for all programs at westshore.edu.
