Free tax prep available

HART — There is still time to make an appointment for free tax preparation at two Oceana County sites.

If your household income is less than $66,000, call 211 to schedule an appointment through Goodwill’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. 

Tax preparation sites are at Hart City Hall, 407 S. State St., on Thursdays from 2-6 p.m. through April 11 and the Oceana County Council on Aging, 4250 W. Tyler Rd., on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 15, which is the tax filing deadline day.

In order to file a joint return, both spouses must be present. 

You must have the following:

• Social security or ITIN cards for you, your spouse and any dependents you are claiming;
• Photo ID for you and your spouse;
• All income forms: W2, 1099, SSDI, SSI, FIP, etc.;
• Information from other income sources, such as pensions, annuities, interest, etc.

To ensure you get all your credits and deductions, bring all of the following that apply:

• Copy of last year’s return;
• Amount spent on child/dependent care and care provider’s name, address and tax ID number;
• Heating expenses/most recent heating bill;
• Monthly rent amount;
• Summer and winter property tax bills and current assessed values;
• Health insurance premiums paid;
• Alimony information;
• Letter 6419 Adv. CTC;
• Bank routing and account numbers;
• Information needed for deductions/credits;
• Form 1095 — A, B or C — Affordable Health Care statements.
