Passenger injured when SUV hits tree

WEARE TOWNSHIP — A 43-year-old Hart man who was a passenger in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, March 10, on Jackson Road near Oceana Drive was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Lakeshore Hospital in Shelby, according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

The man was a passenger in a 2006 GMC Yukon XL driven by a 22-year-old Hart man.

The driver told police he was traveling east on Jackson Road in snowy conditions when he lost control of the vehicle; crossed the centerline; and ran off the road into a tree.

The driver sustained minor injuries but did not seek medical treatment, the report states. 

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, although a preliminary breath test of the driver indicated a blood alcohol content of .04, which is below the limit for an operating while impaired arrest.
