Man sent to prison for break-in

HART — A 38-year-old man was sentenced to 13 months to 10 years in prison in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court this week for a conviction of breaking and entering a building with intent.

Paul Madison Phillips pleaded guilty Jan. 22, 2024. One count of unlawful driving away of an automobile/car theft was dismissed, according to court records.

Phillips was arrested by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office for stealing a truck from Van Andel Propane Company, Inc. on South 192nd Avenue in Newfield Township, according to Lt. Shane Hasty. The truck was later located in Hesperia, said Hasty.

Phillips received credit for 129 days served in jail.

His sentence runs concurrently to a separate case for a conviction of methamphetamine possession. Phillips was ordered to 10 months incarceration with credit for 130 days served in jail, court records state.

Phillips was sentenced in 2013 to one year and 11 months to five years in prison for a Manistee County conviction of breaking and entering with intent, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records. In 2011, he was sentenced to two to four years in prison for a Manistee County conviction of larceny in a building.
