Police seek public’s help to find fleeing driver who crashed

HESPERIA — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a male driver of a 2004 Buick Park Avenue that fled from a deputy early Friday morning, March 1, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop shortly before 3 a.m. for an illegal license plate. The driver gave chase on South Street, and the pursuit progressed into Newaygo County. The car crashed into an embankment; the airbags deployed; and the driver fled the scene on foot, said Sheriff Mast.

A 38-year-old Hesperia woman who was a passenger in the car suffered minor injuries, and the deputy was rendering aid as the driver ran away.

If anyone has any information about this incident, they are asked to contact the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office at 231-873-2121.
