Mast seeks 3rd term as sheriff

HART — Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast recently announced that he is seeking a third term as sheriff.

Mast said he has filed his paperwork with the Oceana County Clerk for his re-election. He was elected sheriff in 2016.

Mast, 54, has been with the sheriff’s office for 30 years, first serving as a dispatcher deputy and then moving onto road patrol deputy. He served as sergeant for approximately seven years before being promoted to lieutenant in 2008.

He was named Administrator of the Year by the Police Officers Association of Michigan in 2019.

The sheriff launched the successful Inmate Work Program in 2017. After securing funds through an active community campaign, Mast also introduced the first K-9 on Oceana’s department in nearly 10 years.

“My work here isn’t finished, and I have a lot of things to do to continue to protect and defend our community,” he said.
