Winter weather advisory extended until Wednesday at 11 a.m.
The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has extended a winter weather advisory until Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m.
Counties impacted include: Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent and Allegan.
A “hazardous weather outlook” includes Oceana, Mason, Muskegon, Newaygo, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Mecosta, Isabella, Montcalm, Gratiot, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson counties.
“Sub zero wind chills will be in place today through tonight, which will increase the risk for frostbite, especially in southern Lower Michigan where wind chill values could approach 15 below, especially into Wednesday morning,” states NWS. “Lake effect snow showers will continue downwind of Lake Michigan leading to hazardous travel conditions. Icy roads will persist elsewhere, so added caution will be needed on the roadways. Sub zero wind chills will continue into Wednesday morning before improving. Lake effect snow showers are likely much of the week. Additional accumulating snow and travel impacts are possible, especially along the lakeshore.”
