Cure your cabin fever at Pentwater Winterfest 

PENTWATER — With Oceana County buried in heavy snow, plan to get out of hibernation and celebrate Pentwater Winterfest the second and third Saturdays in February.

“Get rid of your winter blues, and come enjoy Pentwater’s annual Winterfest,” event organizers stated. “Year after year, both local residents and visitors come to our winter paradise eagerly anticipating the annual two-weekend Pentwater Winterfest. Winterfest is designed to promote wintertime activities. We invite you to break your cabin fever and join us again this year. We have some winter fun in store. Local shops and restaurants will be open for you to enjoy.”

Pentwater Winterfest activities

Feb. 10-17:

Ice skating rink at North End Park — weather permitting. Ice skates will be available to borrow Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pentwater Chamber of Commerce.

Bonfire at the Village Green

Saturday, Feb. 11:

13th Annual Ryan Williams Perch Tournament, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Event day registration is 7-10 a.m. at Pentwater Convenience Center or Port View. The fee is $10 per adult or $5 per kid (15 or younger). 100 percent cash and prize payout for first, second and third places. Winterfest Market, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church. The Pentwater Chamber of Commerce is welcoming summer farmers market vendors to return for one winter market. Enjoy local cheese, fish, soaps, baked goods, maple syrup and more. Interested vendors can email events@pentwater.org.

Snowman Scram 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run, a fun wintertime event designed as a fundraiser for the Pentwater Public Schools cross country and track teams. The fun run starts at 11 a.m. with the 5K run/walk to follow. Start and finish by the school bus barn/track. Entry fees are $20 for fun run and $30 for 5K run/walk. Open Ski at Crystal Valley Ski Trail, noon to 3 p.m. The public is invited to use Oceana Cross Country Ski Association’s adult and children’s ski equipment on a free, first-come first-served basis. All children must be accompanied by an adult who will assist them in putting on equipment and skiing with them. For ski and trail info, visit www.oceanaski.org

Sledding at the Village Green, all day

Saturday, Feb. 17:

Mardi Gras party at the Antler, 11:30 a.m. to midnight

Poker Run, noon to 4 p.m. Join Pentwater galleries and shops on a poker run. The best hand wins a basket from participating merchants.

Chilly Scavenger Hunt, 1-2:30 p.m. Pick up and drop off your list of clues at the Pentwater Village Green gazebo. Decipher the clues that lead you to different businesses in Pentwater and unscramble the letters located on the windows. The first correct list of clues turned in wins.

The second weekend of Winterfest coincides with Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend Feb. 17 and 18.
