City seeks buyer of iconic church
HART — After 155 years, the Congregational United Church is closing its doors.
Now, the City of Hart Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) has ownership of the church, located at 408 S. State St., and is looking for a buyer.
The property includes three buildings: a traditional cathedral-ceiling church with a basement and kitchen; a 1,100-square-foot detached single-story building; and a 2,600-square-foot two-story home that was converted into offices.
Any party (profit or non-profit) interested in purchasing or acquiring the property is encouraged to submit a letter of interest to: Hart TIFA, 407 S. State St., Hart, MI 49420 or email nkleiner@cityofhart.org no later than Feb. 1, 2024.
A public meeting is set for Feb. 6, 2024 at 1 p.m. to hear from all interested parties.
Church officials cited declining membership led to the decision to close. The church’s final service will be Christmas Eve at 10:45 a.m.
