Students learn about skilled trades careers
GRAND RAPIDS — Shelby and Hart high school students learned about careers in electrical, automotive, construction and welding trades during a visit to the Grand Rapids Community College MTEC (Michigan Technical Education Center) and the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, Dec. 4.
A total of 22 students from Hart and Shelby went on the trip, said Hart High School Student Success Coordinator Jennifer Schlukebir, who works with upperclassmen on college and career readiness. Bussing and lunch were provided by Oceana College Access Network.
“It was a great visit, and we have several students who are excited and interested in the trades,” said Schlukebir.
Students are visiting Muskegon Community College and its tech center this week, and then after Christmas break, there will be trips to Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University, Central Michigan University and Michigan State University.
