Shelby Township receives $10,000 grant from Gerber for community park

SHELBY TOWNSHIP – Shelby Township was recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the Gerber Foundation to go toward the Shelby Township Community Park. The grant supports tots and youth playgrounds, including the naming opportunity for the park playground and sculptures.

“Shelby Township is appreciative of the support and investment from the Gerber Foundation for the Shelby Township Community Park,” said Shelby Township Supervisor Richard Raffaelli. “The Gerber Foundation recognizes the importance of outdoor recreation opportunities for youth and public parks that provide a safe place for children and their families to enjoy together.”

The Shelby Township Community Park is expected to be open to the public in late spring of 2024. The park will include basketball, pickle ball, soccer fields (including a varsity field for Shelby Public Schools), a softball field, several flushing restrooms, water fountains (including pet fountains), two entrances to the William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail, a bike repair station, barbecue areas, pavilion for events, small amphitheater, accessible children’s playgrounds, adult outdoor workout station, concession building and walking trails. So far, 346 trees have been planted at the park, which will make it carbon-neutral and aesthetically pleasing.
