Vandal or vandals damage soccer fields, reward offered
‘This gross act of vandalism ultimately affects our children and grandchildren, who benefit from this facility.’
HART TOWNSHIP — A vandal or vandals damaged the Norman E. Kuhne Recreation Park soccer fields at 3986 North Oceana Drive, and a reward is being offered to identify the person or people responsible.
“The vandalism includes multiple burnouts or doughnuts performed on the playing fields resulting in significant damage to the grassy turf necessitating multiple repairs,” states a press release from the Hart Rec Board of Directors.
The soccer fields are located next to the District Health Department #10 Office.
“The maintenance of these fields is largely supported by donation funds, pay for play fees, and public support from our local communities. Thousands of dollars are spent each year on seed, fertilizer, weed control, irrigation, and ongoing regular maintenance.
“This gross act of vandalism ultimately affects our children and grandchildren, who benefit from this facility. The Hart Area Recreation Club is asking for public input as to whom may have witnessed or can otherwise assist the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office in pursuit of identifying the vandal or vandals.
“Hansen Foods has donated some funds to offer a reward of $250 for information leading to identifying the vandal or vandals.
“A similar incident occurred at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Weare Township near the same time, and it is believed that the two situations may be related.
