Follow these Halloween safety tips provided by Hart Police Department

HART — The Hart Police Department offers Halloween safety tips for trick or treaters and motorists:

  • Both pedestrians and drivers are asked to use extra caution during trick-or-treat hours, scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, in the City of Hart.
  • Drivers should drive at or below the posted speed limits in neighborhoods and be aware of the possibility of pedestrians walking on the side of the road and crossing the street frequently.
  • The Hart Police Department will be patrolling throughout the city to help ensure safety.
  • Children should never trick-or-treat alone and should be accompanied by a trusted adult. Always walk younger children to the door to receive treats.
  • Make sure an adult checks all candy before it is eaten. Discard any treats that seem to have been tampered with or previously unwrapped.
  • Children should never enter strangers’ homes, nor should they accept rides from strangers. Advise children not to take shortcuts through backyards or alleys and to stay with their groups.
  • Always use sidewalks when possible and not the street. Remind children to look in all directions before crossing the street.
  • Costumes should also fit properly and comfortably to avoid tripping and falling.
  • Costume masks should not be worn if they impair vision.
