Motorcyclist crashes after attempting to pass two vehicles in a no passing zone on a curve while speeding

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A 34-year-old Walkerville man was transported by Life EMS to Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital after the motorcycle he was riding crashed on West Baseline Road near South 108th Avenue Tuesday, Oct. 17, shortly before 6 p.m., according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

The man, who was operating a 1996 Yamaha 1000, “was passing two vehicles in a no passing zone on a curve,” states the report. “After passing the vehicles at a high rate of speed, the driver lost control.” The bike went off the road; flipped; and “went into a slide.” 

The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike, landing on one side of a power pole with the bike coming to rest on the other side of the pole, the report states. He was wearing a helmet.
