Hundreds of trees planted at local park thanks to $6,000 grant

SHELBY TOWNSHIP – They say money doesn’t grow on trees, but in this case, money results in tree growth.

Shelby Township recently received a $6,000 grant from Consumers Energy and Michigan Forestry and Park Association, Inc. to plant 330 trees along Buchanan Road, outlining the Shelby Township Park.

Shelby Township officials are “incredibly grateful to Consumers Energy’s dedication to programs that support conservation in rural communities,” states a press release from the township.

“Shelby Township has a plan to apply for additional grants in future years, so our residents have an opportunity to participate,” said Shelby Township Supervisor Richard Raffaelli. “I can’t emphasize enough Consumer Energy’s commitment to communities like ours throughout Michigan, and programs like this are an example of a forward-thinking organization.”
