Obituary: Janice VandenHeuvel, 83, of Pentwater
Janice Ruth (Feguer) VandenHeuvel, 83, of Pentwater, formerly of Lansing, passed away October 10, 2023. Janice was born on April 3, 1940, to Nellie Soper McDaniel and Herbert Feguer, the youngest of five children in Bath, Michigan.
Jan worked for the YMCA and then the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. She took a short time off after her first born and resumed her career for the State of Michigan House of Representatives for several years. Then she was introduced to Dick VandenHeuvel by good friends Jann and Jerry Telling and Dick’s sister, Judee and her husband, Warren Larson. They were married on February 10, 1978. She adapted to the severe change from city girl to farm wife and Dick and Jan excelled together at farm life!
Jan was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining. She picked up gardening and it grew to be a favorite hobby of hers. She loved to take care of her yard and years ago she’d spend time canning or freezing all her vegetables to be used in the winter.
Jan was an avid golfer during her retirement. She golfed in leagues in Florida and in Michigan. She had not one, but three hole-in-ones at the Crystal Lake Club in Florida.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her siblings and their spouses: Herb (Phyllis) Feguer, Don (Marge) Feguer, and Nellie (John) Dunavan.
She is survived by her daughter, Annette (Dr. Richard Mogerman) Greiner; stepsons, Marty (Jayne) VandenHeuvel, Eric (Sandra Cornwall) VandenHeuvel, Burt (Marie) VandenHeuvel, and Rich (Stephanie Wagner) VandenHeuvel; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris Jo (Max) Hineman; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many special friends in Florida with whom great times were had for more than 20 years!
The family would like to extend a special thanks to a great friend and excellent neighbor, Loretta Petersen, who helped so much after Dick died and especially in the week before Jan died.
Memorial contributions in Jan’s honor can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer.
