School resource officer helps catch fleeing suspect
HESPERIA — Hesperia School Resource Officer Dylan Wimmer helped capture a suspect fleeing from a Newaygo County sheriff’s deputy on the school campus Friday, Sept. 29, around 8:30 a.m.
“The individual had been pursued by the deputy beginning at the four-way stop,” said Hesperia Community Schools Superintendent Bryan Mey. “The individual entered the middle school parking lot and attempted to elude the deputy on foot — initially running towards Wesco, then the school building. SRO Wimmer immediately assisted, and the subject was subdued and detained outside of our weight room. The incident was over quickly. The individual did not possess any weapons, and was immediately taken to the Wesco parking lot for transport. No students or staff were involved.
“We are grateful for the quick and decisive actions of the Newaygo County sheriff’s deputy and SRO Det./Sgt. Wimmer. Hesperia Community Schools remains committed to our first and most important priority, student safety and wellbeing.”
