Wine tasting, live music on tap for New Era Farmers Market Aug. 22

NEW ERA — Wine tasting with Pleasant Valley Farms and Vineyard of Hart is on tap for the next New Era Farmers Market Tuesday, Aug. 22. The talented duo, Acoustic Oasis, will make its debut in New Era from 5-7 p.m.

The market, which runs from 4-7 p.m., will feature lawn games, juggling lessons and balloon art. Kid’s club will meet from 4-5 p.m. with a story read by storyteller Katie O’Grady of Muskegon. Kids will enjoy a scavenger hunt through the market. At 5 p.m., there will be a drawing for a Sandcastles Children’s Museum of Ludington day pass for up to six people.

MSU Extension Michigan Fresh cooking show will feature a classic salsa recipe. Country Dairy will serve old fashioned, made-from-scratch sloppy joes, a choice of side dishes, cookies, chocolate milk, pop water and snacks, Deb’s Cafe will serve chicken alfredo and garlic toast, and the Artisan will serve nachos, wraps, burritos and cucumber lime water.

Acoustic Oasis’s Phil Petersen and Glen Miller are two guys who love playing music. Inspired by the music of such artists as Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, Jack Johnson and Ray Lamontagne, the pair have created a playlist of covers and originals adding many instruments along the way. Their sound now includes 6- and 12-string guitars, mandolin, ukulele,  banjo, clarinet and harmonica. They perform in coffee houses, brew pubs, restaurants, wine bars, special events and private parties throughout west Michigan.

The market is located on the grounds of the New Era Christian Reformed Church, 1820 Ray Ave. Look for mascot Raye the Scarecrow on the corner of Oceana Drive and Ray Avenue with a sign directing you to the market.
