Hart man sentenced for embezzlement
HART — A 68-year-old Hart man was sentenced in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court Monday, July 17, for a conviction of embezzlement $50,000-$100,000.
Mitchell Alan Jonassen, of 5215 Tyler Rd., pleaded guilty, May 15. Jonassen was sentenced to one day in jail with credit for one day served; one year probation; and $658 in fines and costs. “Restitution in the amount of $42,739.81 was paid in full prior to sentencing to Upper Silver Lake Corporation,” court records state. One count of larceny by conversion was dismissed.
“Their mother left property in a trust or corporation for her kids,” said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. “Mr. Jonassen sold timber from that property to tree cutting services without including his siblings, thus defrauding them of their rights to the property. Upper Silver Lake Corporation is the company that the mother set up for the benefit of her children.”
