Marine deputy saves boats from burning vessel

PENTWATER — Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Tim Simon’s quick actions saved boats docked in Pentwater Lake at Charlie’s Marina from catching fire Saturday, July 15.

“A boat caught fire this afternoon just after fueling,” states a post on the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. “Sheriff’s office marine division was underway in the channel when the call was dispatched. Deputy Simon responded to the area to assist if necessary.

“The boat came loose during the incident from the dock and began to float towards other docked boats. Deputy Simon was able to push the burning boat and prevent others from catching fire.

“No one was injured, and the boat was extinguished by Pentwater Fire Department personnel.

Cause of the fire is unknown at this time.”

Deputy Simon is head of the sheriff’s office marine division.
