Suspect fights with police, rips deputy’s uniform sleeve

SHELBY — A 35-year-old Shelby man was arrested on charges of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police, malicious destruction of police property, bond violation and trespassing Sunday, July 9, around 8:30 p.m. at the Wesco convenience store, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

“Deputies were dispatched to the scene of an unwanted person,” said Sheriff Mast. The suspect had received written notification that he was no longer allowed in the store due to previous altercations, he said.

When deputies arrived, he became combative and ripped off a deputy’s uniform sleeve. No one was injured.

The man was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
