OWI arrests, assaults top police activity over Fourth of July

The following is recent police activity in Oceana County:

Friday, June 30, 2023:

• 12:33 a.m., (Oceana County Sheriff’s Office), a 49-year-old Texas man was arrested for operating while intoxicated, West Baseline Road, Shelby Township. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
• 3:27 a.m., (OCSO), a license plate, insurance papers, trailer registration and business license paperwork were stolen during a vehicle break-in, Lesada Street, Village of Shelby.

Saturday, July 1, 2023:

• 3:21 p.m., (OCSO), a 24-year-old Hesperia man was arrested on two failure to appear warrants, West Garfield Road, Village of New Era. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
• 4:30 p.m., (Michigan State Police), a 57-year-old Hesperia man was arrested for operating while intoxicated, Arthur Road and 148th Avenue, Otto Township. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
• 9:05 p.m., (OCSO), extortion involving pornographic images sent via SnapChat, 1300 block of North Shore Drive, Golden Township.
• 9:07 p.m., (OCSO), a 72-year-old Whitehall man was arrested for operating while intoxicated, 7200 block of West Stony Lake Road, Benona Township.

Sunday, July 2, 2023:

• 3:25 p.m., (OCSO), a 27-year-old Shelby woman was arrested for domestic violence, Chapita Hills apartments, Village of Shelby. She was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
• 3:46 p.m., (OCSO), gas drive-off, $89 in fuel stolen, Silver Pointe General Store, Golden Township.
• 5:01 p.m., (OCSO), a 27-year-old Walkerville man was arrested for disorderly person, giving false information to police and on outstanding warrants, 600 block of East Clock Road, Elbridge Township. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.

Tuesday, July 4, 2023:

• 3:26 p.m., (OCSO), a 50-year-old Hart man was arrested for domestic violence, 3600 block of West Lever Road, Hart Township. He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
• 4:49 p.m., (OCSO), assault, 2500 block of West Tyler Road, Hart Township.

Wednesday, July 5, 2023:

• 1:10 p.m., (OCSO), assault, 7100 block of South Driftwood Drive, Grant Township.
• 8:52 p.m., (OCSO), a 48-year-old Shelby man was arrested for assault and battery, 100 block of White Street, Village of Shelby. A substance suspected of being cocaine will be sent to the crime lab for analysis.
• 9:44 p.m., (OCSO), a 30-year-old New Era man is suspected of brandishing a firearm, 2600 block of Ray Avenue, Village of New Era. The Smith & Wesson .38 revolver was confiscated by deputies, and the police report will be forwarded to the Oceana County Prosecutor’s Office.
