Muskegon man sent to prison for manufacturing meth

HART — A 31-year-old Muskegon man was sentenced to a prison term of 51 months to 20 years for a conviction of second-offense delivery/manufacture of methamphetamine in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court Monday, June 26.

Nicholas Christopher Phillips, of 264 Broton Rd., pleaded guilty to the charge, April 24, 2023.

“He was taking methamphetamine and pressing it into pills,” said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. “This was done at a house in or near the Lake Tahoe area (in Grant Township). It is believed he was responsible for a large quantity of methamphetamine pills being distributed in west Michigan. He was caught as a result of a WEMET (West Michigan Enforcement Team) investigation in Muskegon that tracked activity up to Oceana County where WEMET worked with SSCENT (State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team) to complete the investigation.”

Phillips received credit for two days served in jail and was ordered to pay $258 in fines and costs. 

Charges of second-offense operating/maintaining a laboratory and second-offense operating/maintaining a laboratory involving methamphetamine were dismissed.

According to Michigan Department of Corrections records, he has prior felony convictions in Isabella County of carrying a concealed weapon and methamphetamine possession. He received a sentence that included to two years probation for those convictions Jan. 18, 2023 according to the MDOC.
