Thief or thieves steal from farm workers while they’re picking asparagus

LEAVITT TOWNSHIP — While farm workers were picking asparagus in a field on North 160th Avenue Saturday, May 13, around 7:30 p.m., a thief or thieves took advantage and stole several wallets, cash and cell phones from the workers, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

It was not immediately known if the thefts occurred inside a bus that transports the workers to the fields. Four backpacks were stolen containing the valuables.
