Sheriff’s office investigates cherry tree destruction

HART TOWNSHIP — A young George Washington eventually fessed up to cutting down a cherry tree, and investigators from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office are hoping whoever uprooted two cherry trees in an orchard last weekend also confesses.

“Unknown suspects entered into a fenced-in cherry orchard and caused turf damage and uprooted two cherry trees,” said Lt. Shane Hasty of the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office. 

The malicious destruction of property was reported Sunday, March 26, around 9:30 a.m. on West Tyler Road.

Friday, March 24, 2023:

  • 6:10 p.m., fraud, suspicious activity on a bank account, 8500 block of South Robinhood Drive, Grant Township.

Sunday, March 26, 2023:

  • 7:02 a.m., a 51-year-old Hart Township man was arrested for attempted breaking and entering and disorderly conduct, Peach Street, City of Hart.
  • 6:56 p.m., a 49-year-old Cadillac man was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated after the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and crashed into trees, North 176th Avenue, Colfax Township.
