Man ejected ‘considerable distance’ in suspected drunk driving crash

NEW ERA — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office plans to pursue charging a 27-year-old New Era man with operating while intoxicated following a rollover crash at the intersection of Garfield Road and Oceana Drive Sunday, March 19, around 6:45 a.m., according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle after driving “at a high rate of speed,” said the sheriff. “He was thrown a considerable distance. He suffered a severe laceration to one leg and an injury to his ear.”

The man was eastbound on Garfield Road, approaching Oceana Drive, when the crash occurred. He was transported by Life EMS to Muskegon for medical treatment.
