WSCC hosts 25th annual high school art exhibition

WSCC News is a presentation of West Shore Community College in partnership with Mason County Press and Oceana County Press.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP – The West Shore Community College art department will host the 25th annual regional high school art exhibition, titled “Faces: Emotions and Expressions” beginning today in the college’s Manierre Dawson Gallery. Student artwork will be displayed through Mar. 31.

Sponsored by the WSCC Foundation and the art department, this year’s exhibition focuses on celebrating young local talent. Area high schools were invited to enter up to five works by students and those included in the exhibit were selected by high school art teachers. Each high school graduate participant will also be eligible for a scholarship which can be applied to one of several studio art classes offered by the college.

“This year, we are hosting Mason County Eastern, Mason County Central, Ludington, Pentwater, Shelby, and Brethren high schools,” said WSCC Professor of Art Eden Ünlüata – Foley. “This year we developed the exhibition around a theme like professionally curated exhibitions often do. Each year there is a very large amount of portrait work that is submitted, so we chose the theme of faces for this year.”

The Manierre Dawson Gallery is located in the Arts and Sciences Center.  The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
