Mears woman arrested for felonious assault

UPDATE: Charges against the two suspects were dropped by the victim, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.

MEARS — A 36-year-old Mears woman was arrested by Oceana County sheriff’s deputies for felonious assault, and a 34-year-old Mears man was arrested for assault Sunday, March 5, in the 5800 block of West Sixth Street, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The victim is a 28-year-old Mears man who was in a dating relationship with the female suspect.

The first reported assault occurred around 2 a.m. in a vehicle when the woman allegedly choked the man.

The second assault occurred later that morning shortly before 9 a.m. when the two suspects appeared at the victim’s house, beating on the door, said Mast.

The woman grabbed a kitchen knife and threw it at the victim, he said. She reportedly put him in a headlock, and the male suspect punched him twice.

Both suspects were lodged in the Oceana County Jail.

Other police activity in Oceana County over the weekend includes:

  • 6:35 p.m., (Michigan State Police), a 50-year-old Muskegon man was arrested on a failure to appear warrant, US 31 near the Muskegon County line, Grant Township.
