Motorcyclist leads police on high-speed chase

The suspect reportedly reached a speed of 110 mph

FERRY TOWNSHIP — A 63-year-old Mears man who allegedly led police on a brief car chase Feb. 18 fled from sheriff’s deputies again Friday, Feb. 24, but this time he was riding a motorcycle, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

Deputies conducted a parole violation check at his home shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, but did not find him, said Sheriff Mast. The suspect was then located about two hours later riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle on M 20 in Ferry Township. When deputies attempted to stop the man, he fled — reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The pursuit continued south onto 132nd Avenue where he was clocked at 108 mph. He then continued eastbound on Garfield Road, going 110 mph, said Mast. He pulled the bike into a driveway where it became stuck in the snow and mud. The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was arrested and refused to provide deputies with a statement, said Mast. He is charged again with fleeing and eluding along with a charge of violating bond conditions from the previous Feb. 18 arrest. Parole violation charges are also being sought.

He was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
