Man faces prison term for CSC, breaking and entering

HART — A 20-year-old Branch man pleaded “no contest” to third-degree criminal sexual conduct and breaking and entering a building with intent Monday, Feb. 27, in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court.
Jacob Bengermaine Casanova-Gleason faces a prison term of two and a half to 30 years, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. The victim in the CSC case is a 14-year-old girl.
Charges of first-degree CSC and assault by strangulation will be dismissed. Casanova-Gleason faced felony charges in three separate cases.
He stole a decorative flower pot from a neighbor’s home while he was “under the influence of something” and was charged with breaking and entering.
“While he was on bond for that, he got into a fight,” which led to the second case with the felony assault charge. “He put his hands around her throat,” said Bizon. “While that was being investigated, there were disclosures of sexual assault,” which resulted in the CSC charge.
The resolution in the case was worked out in agreement with the victim, said the prosecutor.
The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office investigated the cases.
