TRAVERSE CITY — Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon was honored during the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan Midwinter Conference for his 20 years of service to Michigan citizens.
PAAM President Tom Weichel, who is the Alcoma County prosecutor, presented Bizon his award Thursday evening, Feb. 16.
“It’s a great job; it’s an important job; and we have to take it seriously. It’s been a good career, and it’s provided for my family. It’s a blessing to be able to do this for 20 years.
“I want to thank the prosecutors who have hired me; trained me; and helped me along the way. More than anything else, I thank my family because my wife Sara and son JJ have been great at supporting my career and have made many sacrifices for it.”
Bizon, 47, has served in Oceana County for 16 years, with the last 10 years as the elected prosecutor. He worked as the assistant prosecutor for six years prior when Terry Shaw was prosecutor. Before that, Bizon was assistant prosecutor in Manistee County for four years beginning in 2003.
“I came to Oceana County in 2007,” he recalled. “I got elected in 2012 and have been serving as the elected prosecutor since 2013.”
The prosecutor graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in history and then obtained his law degree from Michigan State University in 2002.
