Pet Connection: Victor needs a loving home
Editor’s Note: Last month’s featured cat, Zoey, has found her “furever” home. In order to help us continue helping these animals, we need an advertising sponsor for the Pet Connection series to continue. Please email editor@masoncountypress.com for details.
Victor is our featured cat this month rescued by Oceana County Animal Friends.
“Victor was rescued from across the street from the shelter,” said Oceana County Animal Friends Vice President Amy Vanderwilk. It appears he has been surviving on his own for many years.
“Victor has had a very hard life. He was caught in an animal trap and lost his paw and lower leg. He now runs around on a little nub. He healed without any vet care. We noticed his leg and that his ears were bloody, so we wanted to get him his first trip to the vet.
“What we discovered is that he was caught in that trap on his right leg and then was shot on his left leg. His left leg was shattered, and it has healed now, but he still has a bullet left in his leg. He is FIV positive, so he will need to live in a home on his own.
FIV is only transmitted through blood transfusions, serious penetrating bite wounds, or intercourse, according to myths-and-truths-about-fiv. Other cats cannot get FIV through casual contact. FIV is a species-specific disease, so it cannot be transmitted to humans or any other animal.
There is a $75 donation fee to take Victor home. Please fill out an application, and OCAF will contact you.
