Winter weather advisory issued for Oceana and Mason counties

OCEANA COUNTY — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Oceana and Mason counties beginning Thursday, Jan. 26, from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Heavy lake effect snow is expected with accumulations of up to 4 inches.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” states NWS. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Slow down and use caution while traveling.”

Slippery road conditions in Oceana County were already being reported by emergency personnel Wednesday, Jan. 25. Two separate traffic crashes in the Shelby area were reported Wednesday afternoon. A rollover crash occurred around 5 p.m. on Scenic Drive near the Benona Shores Golf Course. According to the Shelby-Benona Fire Department’s Facebook page, “Roads are becoming increasingly slick and will do so into the night. We advise you to take your time and slow down while out traveling.”
