OCEANA COUNTY — Old Newsies/Goodfellows hit the streets Saturday, Dec. 10, for the annual fundraiser that helps less fortunate children and families during Christmas.

Stationed at major intersections, the Old Newsies/News Boys/Goodfellows gathered donations from passing motorists.

“For 78 years, the Old Newsies have been helping the needy children in Oceana County and serving our less fortunate families at Christmas time,” states Oceana County Old Newsies President Bill House in the 2022 edition of the Old Newsies newspaper handed out to donors. “Times are still very difficult for many and especially at this time of the year.

“Oceana County’s wealth is measured by the spirit of several small towns including New Era, Shelby, Hart, Mears, Rothbury, Pentwater, Ferry/Hesperia and Walkerville. With the help of our members — over 200 strong — we worked together to bring Christmas to over 725+ children for 260 families last year.

“It’s been a pleasure to work for this organization for the past 21 years as president. We want to continue our tradition of giving. Thanks to the efforts of our members and generous support from businesses and individuals, we carry on the words of our motto to: ‘Let No Child Be Forgotten.’

“You can be sure that all contributions are used exclusively for Oceana County children and will be greatly appreciated.”

Donations can be mailed to: Oceana County Newsies, 913 S. Oceana Drive, Shelby MI 49455.
