Trick or treating set for Oct. 29 in New Era.
Village’s trick or treating may permanently move to the last Saturday in October.
NEW ERA — New Era will celebrate Halloween and host trick or treating Saturday, Oct. 29.
“After speaking with many school staff, parents and community members, we decided to host Halloween on a Saturday to accommodate young children’s need for early bedtime on school nights and busy working parents’ and families’ weeknight schedules,” said Chelsea Hayes, one of the event organizers. “This gives local families an option — they can choose to bring their children to New Era on Saturday and/or another neighboring town on Monday, the 31st. If this goes well, we would love to always host Halloween/trick or treating in New Era on the last Saturday of October each year as a new tradition.”
The Halloween festivities will include the popular Sidewalk Spooktacular from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Trick-or-treating hours in the village are from 6-8 p.m.
Children can trick-or-treat in front of the downtown businesses and enjoy all the extra visitors passing out candy and can then head out into the neighborhood for village-wide trick or treating, said Hayes.
“We know many of our community members don’t live in areas with many trick-or-treaters, so we are inviting (them) to bring a chair and a bowl of candy to downtown New Era and set up on the sidewalk in front of the businesses to pass out candy to all of the children. It’s much like a trunk or treat, but on a sidewalk with chairs. In previous years, the event has been really well-attended and many people ran out of candy half way through. This year, we anticipate up to 1,000 trick-or-treaters.”
