Obituary: Dorothy Anderson, 83, of Shelby.
Dorothy Mae Anderson, 83, of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022, surrounded by love from her family. She was born February 1, 1939 in Shelby, the daughter of Paul and Kathryn (Lukonic) Oberlin. She married her high school sweetheart, Gordon Anderson, on April 12, 1958.
After graduating from Shelby High School, Dorothy joined Shelby State Bank, where she worked most of her career, starting as a teller and moving up in the company through the years and modernization of the banking industry, ultimately retiring as an Assistant Vice President. Dorothy served on several boards, including secretary of the Shelby State Bank board, Shelby Financial Corporation Board of Directors, Lakeshore Hospital board and many church committees throughout the years.
When not working, besides managing a home with five sons with her beloved husband Gordie, Dorothy enjoyed cooking and baking, as often exhibited in our weekly Sunday dinners with the full family, all gathered around the dining room table, or her many awards and accolades for pie baking. Dorothy enjoyed her time farming with Gordie, gardening, traveling, especially to Florida for the harsh Michigan winters, quilting, doing puzzles, running their antique store and attending the various tractor shows. One of her most cherished activities was going with Gordie for drives, getting ice cream and watching the sunset at the oval – drives were an especially favorite activity for mom in the last few years.
Dorothy is survived by: her husband, Gordon Anderson; sons, James (Tracey) Anderson, Jeff (Richele) Anderson, Steven (Amy) Anderson, Scott (Lynette) Anderson, Mark (Ben Veach) Anderson; grandchildren: Joshua (Laura) Anderson, Edward (Courtney) Anderson, Tiffany (Lucas) Houghton, Gabriel Anderson, Jori Anderson, Caleb (Madilyn) Anderson; great-grandchildren: Saige Anderson, Selah Anderson, Lilah Anderson, Fisher Anderson, Scout Anderson, Oliver Houghton and Jace Anderson, Brother Dave (Mary) Oberlin, half brother John (Cathy) Oberlin, stepbrother Mike (Edana Salisbury) Yates, stepsister Michelle (Mark) Baker and many loving nieces and nephews.
