Mother shoots son, kills self.

10-year-old boy in critical condition.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A 38-year-old woman shot her 10-year-old son before killing herself in an attempted murder-suicide Monday morning, July 25, shortly after 6:30 a.m. at a residence on Baseline Road east of Oceana Drive, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

“Today at 6:42 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a residence in Shelby Township to a report of shots fired,” states Sheriff Mast. “Upon arrival there, deputies found a 38-year-old female and a 10-year-old boy both with gunshot wounds. The female was pronounced dead at the scene.” 

The boy was transported from the scene to Trinity Health Shelby and then airlifted by AeroMed to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital where he is in critical condition.  

“The incident is still being investigated, and there is no public safety concern at this time,” said Sheriff Mast. Life EMS assisted at the scene.
