Obituary: Katherine ‘Kay’ Jacobs, 83, of New Era.

Katherine “Kay” Josephine (Hromada) Jacobs, 83, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at her home in New Era. She was born on December 7, 1938, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, to Thomas and Leona (Treusch) Hromada, the oldest of four children.

Kay graduated from Redstone High School in 1957. She later obtained a cosmetology license and ran a salon out of her home. Kay married Claude “Red” Jacobs on June 4, 1965. She loved hosting friends and family at her home for any type of event or party. Kay lived and worked in the Detroit area before moving back to her husband’s hometown of New Era. The family took many camping trips all around the United States and spent time on their property in New Era, nicknamed the “Lazy J Ranch.” Her family meant the world to her. Kay had a bright personality and a soft spot for helping friends in need. She was always authentically herself, never holding anything back. Most of all Kay loved to be surrounded by people, especially her large and loving family.

Kay is survived by: children, Edward (Debbie) Rockwell, Kathy Jo (Reed) Colby, and Ryan (Laura) Jacobs; stepdaughters, Pat (Lynn) Veneri, Karen Smith; grandchildren, PJ (Tara) Rockwell, Jeremy Rockwell, Joshua Rockwell, John (Dena) Harris, Kelly Edwards, Paula (Mark) Henrickson, Curt (Sarah) Harris, Whitney (Josh) Young, Jami Weissert, Tasha Miller, Cassie (Mike) Lipka, Falisha (Bill DeWitt) Colby, Maddison (Graham) Herin, Renza (Michael) Craner, Dayden Jacobs; and several great-grandchildren; brothers, Thomas (Margaret) Hromada, and David (Betty) Hromada; sister, Karen Show.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Leona Hromada, her husband Red, and her daughter Debbie Harris.

A memorial service will be held at Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ, 51 W. Third Street, Shelby on Monday, July 18, 2022, at 3 p.m., with Rev. Dan Barnum-Steggerda officiating.
