Sheriff offers jail tours prior to Aug. 2 election.

Millage increase to build new jail, sheriff’s office on the ballot.

HART — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office is offering public tours of the county jail prior to the Aug. 2 election.

The county is asking for a 2.25 millage increase to build a new 144-bed jail and sheriff’s office.

In the weeks leading up to the election, Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast is offering public tours of the current aging facility. Tours are scheduled for Wednesdays, July 13, 20 and 27, from 3-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m.

If a group would like a tour during a different time frame, contact the sheriff’s office at (231) 873-2121 to see if the request can be accommodated.

Those touring the facility must be at least 18 years old. Cell phones, knives and weapons of any type are not allowed.
