Obituary: Merle Lindsay, 78, of Hart.

Merle Steven Lindsay, 78, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2022, from his home here on earth to his Heavenly Home, after a short illness. On December 22, 1943, Merle was the fourth born to Earl and Maxine (Vine) Lindsay. He resided most of his life in Hart, attended Western Michigan University, and served in the United States Air Force from May 1968 to July 1972.

Merle is survived by: his siblings, Blanche Lindsay of Traverse City, Lois (Chuck) Cutler of Florida, and Larry (Marlene) Lindsay of Hart; several nieces and a nephew and their families; Kim (Lindsay) Mahoney, Karen Stapel, Irene (Cutler) Altomore, Kathy Lindsay, Mariam (Cutler) Ongemach, Kay Lindsay, Lee Lindsay, and Penny (Lindsay) Price; as well as several cousins.

Merle was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Jerome; sister-in-law, Beverly Lindsay; and niece, Carmen Cutler.

Merle was raised and lived much of his life on the family farm, enjoyed vehicles of all kinds – including watching NASCAR – and researching family genealogy, among many other topics.

He recently shared some favorite quotes;

“Teach us to number our days and to remember how few they are.  Help us to spend them wisely.”  Psalm 90:12 – paraphrased

“Go placidly among the noise and haste.  And remember what peace there may be in silence.”

“All I can do is keep doing all I can do every day.”

“All it takes for evil to prevail is for the good to do nothing.”

“Truth is addictive!”

In accordance with Merle’s wishes, cremation has taken place and private interment will be in Hart Cemetery.
