Water Safety Day this Saturday.

PENTWATER – As the head of the marine division for the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Tim Simon wants to ensure that everyone is safe on the water each summer – especially children.

That is why Simon is offering the third annual Oceana County Water Safety Day Saturday, June 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pentwater Municipal Marina.

In addition to the sheriff’s office, other agencies participating in the event will include the Department of Natural Resources, the Oceana County Dive Team, the Michigan State Police Dive Team, Pentwater Police Department, Pentwater Fire Department and Life EMS.

A select number of life jackets will be given away while supplies last, and a free lunch will be provided, including hot dogs, chips and a beverage.

The kids will learn about water and beach safety.

“With summer approaching, we want to make sure all children are educated with water safety in and around our lakes and beaches,” said Simon.

This event is sponsored by the Pentwater Lake Association, the Pentwater Sportfishing Association, the Shelby Optimist Club, Wave Club Inc. and Hansen Foods.
