HART TOWNSHIP — A fire that destroyed a single-wide house trailer and an out building at 3909 Wayne Road Saturday, April 30, is being investigated as arson, said Hart Assistant Fire Chief Tim Tubbs.

Crews from Hart, Pentwater and Crystal Township departments were dispatched to the scene around 1:30 p.m., said Tubbs.

Two dogs died in the fire. No humans were inside the trailer at the time of the blaze.

“It was totally involved when we got the call,” said Tubbs. “The roof was already coming down when we got there. Everything was destroyed that was in the trailer.” A small woods fire also ignited, but firefighters quickly extinguished it.

“From what I understand, there was no power to the trailer,” said Tubbs.

An Oceana County fire investigator examined the scene Sunday, May 1. “It’s definitely suspicious,” said Tubbs. Materials are being examined to determine if there was some type of accelerant used.

Firefighters were on scene for three hours.

It is believed to be a rental unit, said Tubbs. Two adults lived in the trailer, he said, and they secured temporary housing. It was not immediately known if the trailer was insured.
