Obituary: Vera VanBrocklin, 93, of Hesperia.
Vera Marie VanBrocklin, 93, of Hesperia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children, on Thursday, April 28, 2022. She was born April 27, 1929, in Honor, the daughter of the late George and Inez (Parker) Fast.
On February 8, 1949, Vera married Jon VanBrocklin, and moved to the Ferry Township area in 1951. Together they had 12 children.
“Grandma V” as many family and friends called her, was a caring, loving, and welcoming person. Her favorite pastime was cooking and having her family over for Sunday dinners; if you stopped in at meal time she would set a place for you at the table. She also enjoyed gardening and baking; at Christmas time she baked all sorts of baked goods for all her kids, grandkids, and friends.
Vera is survived by her children, Linda Woodworth, George VanBrocklin, Jon Joel VanBrocklin Jr., Etta (Bob) Brown, Tina Kelley, Shirley VanBrocklin, Debora (James) Housley, Zora (Al Dodge) VanBrocklin, Goldie (Jim) Cramblit , Jimmy VanBrocklin, and Mike VanBrocklin; 26 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend of 71 years, Alma Harris.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband; her son, LaVaughn VanBrocklin; her sons-in-law, Ed Kelley and Larry Woodworth; granddaughters, Amanda VanBrocklin and Katie Jo Woodworth; grandson, Eddy Carr; grandson-in-law, Ed Woodworth Jr; and her brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the Harris Funeral Home, 267 North Michigan Avenue, Shelby.
