HART — It may not be a case of foul play, but “fowl play” was definitely involved. A 6-foot-tall ornamental rooster that was stolen about three months ago from a yard on Harvey Street in the Village of Shelby was recovered in Mason County.

The metal rooster, which is valued at $250, was stolen last January, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

A different police agency spotted the bird at a Tallman Lake residence, said Sheriff Mast. “They recognized it from the news article.”

A police report is being written, and criminal charges are expected to be filed.

The rooster is now back “roosting” in the evidence room at the sheriff’s office until it returns to its owners.
